Being at Risk of Homelessness

We understand that people can be at risk of homelessness due to a number of factors including low income, falling behind in rent or mortgage payments, debt, unemployment, relationship breakdowns, physical or mental health concerns, alcohol or drug misuse and difficulties with sexual orientation.

I am afraid that I may lose my home because I’m behind on my mortgage

If you are behind with your mortgage, you may be worried about losing your home, please get in touch with Galway Simon Community for support. Alternatively, you can talk to your lender or if you can’t, talk to MABS.  MABS has a dedicated, confidential, free and independent mortgage arrears service.  They are a one stop shop for mortgage debt advice and referrals. I am afraid that I may lose my home because I’m having trouble with my rent

If you are renting privately and are in dispute with your landlord, please get in touch with Galway Simon Community for support. Alternatively, the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB) may be able to assist you to find a solution.  They can be contacted at (01) 6350600 or through their website prtb.ie.

I am homeless and I have nowhere to sleep tonight

If you have nowhere to stay tonight, you need to present to Galway City Council (091-894372) or your relevant Local Authority.  Otherwise, you can contact the COPE Day Centre (091-525259). Their out of hours emergency number is 1800 788-887. Visit here for more information on accessing emergency accommodation in Galway.

Once you have been accommodated and you want to move on from emergency accommodation, you can make a referral to our services by completing our online referral form or by contacting our team on 091 381828.
